John Frusciante’s Moog MF-105 Moogerfooger MuRF

In a 2006 interview with Guitar Player magazine, John mentioned using the Moog MuRF on the solo for “Tell Me Baby.” The effect also appears in the second verse of “Dani California.”

The second verse begins with a couple of guitars playing in harmony. After they were recorded, I ran them through a Moog MF-105 MuRF (Multiple Resonance Filter Array) pedals six times and recorded the results on individual tracks.

The Moog MF-105 Moogerfooger MuRF is a pedal that combines a filter and sequencer to create rhythmic, sweeping, and dynamic sound effects. Think of it as a tool that chops the guitar sounds into patterns or pulses, while also shaping the tone to make it sound more vibrant, like a wave of moving frequencies.

During the Stadium Arcadium tour, John had a bunch of Moogerfooger pedals on his pedalboard, among them the MuRF (third from the right in the top row).
