John added a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive pedal to his pedalboard before the Unlimited Love tour in 2022. As John explained in his interview with Howard Stern, he uses this pedal for a “less overdriven” tone, while the Boss DS-2 remains his go-to for a “more distorted” sound.
According to Justin Jeske’s analysis, John used this pedal on the chorus and solo of “Black Summer” and likely on “It’s Only Natural.”
