John Frusciante’s 1999 Fender Custom Shop Silver Sparkle Stratocaster (“Can’t Stop” music video)

John was seen playing this guitar during the Can’t Stop music video, alongside an orange Fender Toronado. Neither guitar belonged to John; both were rented by the production company specifically for the video.

The director, Mark Romanek, likely chose the guitars to match the orange and white theme of the video. Since John’s vintage guitars from the 1950s and 1960s didn’t align with the modern aesthetic Romanek envisioned, he reportedly persuaded John to use the rented guitars, despite John’s initial protests and preference for his own gear.

The current owner of the guitar shared some photos, revealing that it has changed hands several times since the video was recorded before eventually coming into their possession.
