Angus Young’s Dean Markley Guitar Strings

Around early 1980s, there was an ad published by Dean Markley that had AC/DC on the cover – clearly indicating that the band was using their strings at the time.

Unfortunately, there appears to be zero information on which exact strings Angus used. If we’re to guess, based on his current preferences, they were likely a lighter set, of around 9 – 42.

I recall an interview in Guitar World sometime after the Raspr’s Edge came out where Angus went into detail about his strings. He liked heavy gauges so he could hit them hard and said he was using a .10 set. He had tried going heavier, but didn’t.have the hand strength to do it. Malcom was the big influence there, and Angis said he was using whatever the heaviest gauge he could find was. For a guy as small as Angis, I’m sure .10a were quite a challenge. I always thought fighting them was a big part of his technique actually.
