Famous Silvertone 1448 Guitar Players
The Silvertone 1448 guitar, manufactured by Danelectro and sold exclusively through Sears in the 1960s, was one of the most affordable electric guitars of its time, priced at $67.95 in 1964 (equivalent to around $636 today). What set 1448 apart was its unique feature: an amplifier built into its hardshell case. Despite being a budget instrument, it had some interesting design elements, including a 22.5″ short scale neck, and a skunk stripe on the back of the neck to protect the rosewood fretboard during finishing. Also, the guitar’s electronics were fully shielded with copper foil, an uncommon feature for guitars of this price range, protecting it from line noise.
