The Boss RC-600 Loop Station is Khn’s main loop unit, the thing that allows him to play the way he does. He uses it to record and layer tracks while playing live, making it sound like he’s playing multiple instruments at once.
The way this pedal works is it essentially has 6 different tracks to record on. Khn uses 3 for guitar, 3 for bass, and one as a click track. All of these tracks can be overdubbed, deleted, paused, and played at any time.
Although a lot of this is guesswork based on photos and performances, we’ll try to explain how everything works in Khn’s signal chain as it relates to the RC-600. Separate pages will cover what each specific pedal does.
Khn de Poitrine’s Signal Chain/Pedalboard Explained
Guitar signal chain
- Guitar → FV-50H volume pedal – master mute for the whole guitar chain
- TU-3 tuner
- Warm Audio RingerBringer (ring modulator, real-time controlled by four expression pedals plugged into its CV inputs: MIX, FREQ, RATE, LFO)
- MXR Bass Octave Deluxe
- RAT (distortion)
- DD-8 Digital Delay
- Mad Professor Supreme
- Engager Boost
- Infect FX (unknown custom-made pedal)
- RC-600 Input 1
The pedals all seem to run on a single serial chain, and he turns individual ones on and off as needed during songs. We still can’t say for certain whether this exact pedal order is correct, but the serial-chain structure is very likely because of how he uses the rig live.
Bass signal chain
- Bass → RC-600 Input 2 (direct, no pedals)
- Any bass tone shaping is handled by the RC-600’s onboard Input FX
The bass signal appears to bypass all the pedals on the pedalboard and go straight into the RC-600 looper.
Vocal signal chain
- Microphone → RC-600 XLR mic input (with phantom power)
- Vocal effects (pitch shifting, harmonizing, robotic textures, etc.) are applied via the RC-600’s onboard vocal FX — this is the source of the “weird” vocal sounds during performances
This entire chain is assumed, as it’s very hard to tell how exactly Khn is mic’d up or what that mic is connected to. He obviously also applies some sort of effect to his voice, but how that all works is, again, a mystery.
Muting between instruments
- Guitar mute: roll FV-50H to zero – silences the whole guitar chain at the source
- Bass mute: handled inside the RC-600, possibly via the FS-7 (recently FS-6) footswitch, toggling the bass input channel
Output
- RC-600 main L/R outputs → Radial ProDI box #1 → FOH (the full instrumental mix: guitar, bass, loops)
- RC-600 sub-output → Bigshot ABY → Radial ProDI box #2 → FOH (likely the vocal feed, routed separately so the engineer can mix vocals independently)
