James Hetfield’s Gibson Flying V (Kill ‘Em All Tour)

James used this Gibson Flying V briefly during the Kill ‘Em All For One Tour in 1983, Metallica’s first major concert tour in support of British metal band Raven.

Unfortunately, the story of this guitar is a mystery. It is obvious that James used it as a backup for his Electra, but it is unknown where or how he got it, and why it completely disappeared after the tour. It could be that this is something he bought himself, or it could be something he borrowed from someone.

Additionally, it seems that someone has made modifications to the guitar. The neck pickup has been taken out, and both the cavity and the hole from the volume pot for this pickup have been taped over with duct tape.
