James Hetfield’s First Guitar
Unfortunately, we don’t know much about the first guitar that James used. According to him, it sounds like it was a no-name brand, that he got at a swap meet – probably trading it for something else.
My first guitar was a swap-meet thing that I paid five bucks for and painted about 12 different times. I put Eddie Van Halen stripes on and all that stuff, like every kid did.

Also according to James, he painted the guitar a number of times and decorated it in the style of Eddie Van Halen. Of course, “Van Halen I” came out in 1978, and since we know James got his second guitar in 1979, this means that this first guitar, whatever it was, was used for around a year.

The Instagram guitarist Matt Vistnes uses that exact model and color. His username is mattvistnesguitar if you want to reach out to him.
Never mind, the guitar used is a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard
Yeah, if you’re referring to the image with a question mark – it’s just a placeholder, nothing to do with the actual guitar
