James Hetfield’s ESP MX250 Doubleneck

Brand: ESP
Model: MX-250

James used this guitar occasionally in the early 90s, mostly just to play “Fade to Black” live. It was most famously seen at the National Bowl, in Basel, Switzerland in 1993, and at the 1994 Woodstock festival.

The guitar was probably custom-built for James, and it featured two necks – a 12-string on the top, and a 6-string on the bottom. It most likely shared specs with the rest of his ESP guitar from around this period, meaning it probably had an EMG 81/60 pickup set, Gotoh tuners, and the ABR-1 Tune-O-Matic bridge.
