James Hetfield’s 1950s Fender Telecaster

James noted in a 1991 interview with Guitar World that he used a Fender Telecaster for the intro on “The Unforgiven”. Based on James’ words, the guitar was old, so likely a vintage 50s model, very likely the same one that he was seen posing with in the “Nothing Else Matters” video (photo below).

I also used an old Telecaster for that distant, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly opening melody in ‘The Unforgiven.’
