Univox Guitars
Univox was a musical instrument brand created by Unicord in the early 1960s, following their acquisition of the Amplifier Corporation of America in Westbury, New York. Initially, Univox marketed a line of guitar amplifiers and later expanded to distribute guitars made by Matsumoku, as well as effects units from Shin-Ei Companion and synthesizers from Crumar and Korg.
Univox became particularly known for its copies of popular instruments from renowned companies like Fender, Gibson, and Rickenbacker. One of its most notable models, the Hi-Flier, drew inspiration from the unique Mosrite “reverse swept” shape and gained renewed popularity in the early 1990s thanks to Kurt Cobain, despite the original production ending nearly two decades earlier.
