Famous PRS Super Eagle Guitar Players
The “Super Eagle” is a highly personalized and limited-edition guitar created from the close collaboration between PRS founder Paul Reed Smith and Grammy-winning musician John Mayer. This guitar features premium materials and unique specifications designed to suit Mayer’s tonal and playability preferences. The body is made from a combination of curly maple for the top and back, with mahogany in the middle, while the neck is constructed from one-piece Private Stock curly maple. The guitar has 24 frets, a slightly longer-than-standard PRS scale length of 25.375″, and a Brazilian rosewood fretboard adorned with intricate green ripple abalone “Old School” bird inlays and a violin bird at the 12th fret.
The hardware includes a PRS patented Gen III tremolo and tweaked Phase III locking tuners with ebony buttons. The electronics are versatile, with specially wound 58/15 JM treble and bass pickups, along with a Narrowfield JM pickup in the middle position. This is paired with three mini-switches for individual coil taps, as well as two additional mini-switches for on/off and treble boost, powered by a JCF Audio preamp.
