Famous Ibanez RG Series Guitar Players

The RG series, produced by Hoshino Gakki and sold under the Ibanez brand, is renowned for its role in shaping the hard rock and metal guitar landscape. Introduced in 1987 with the RG550, the series is celebrated for its offset double cutaway “Superstrat” body, ultra-thin necks, and flat, 24-fret fingerboards. Many RG models feature Floyd Rose-style floating double-locking tremolo bridges, with higher-end versions sporting the Edge and Lo-Pro Edge tremolos.

Originally known as the Roadstar Guitar, the RG series began as part of the Roadstar II lineup. The name was simplified to RG around 1992. The RG550, a more affordable variant of Steve Vai’s JEM777 signature model, was noted for its playability, including the Edge tremolo and Wizard neck, while omitting some of the JEM’s elaborate features.
