Famous Gretsch 6121 Guitar Players
The Gretsch 6121 is a solid-body electric guitar that evolved from the 6130 Round-Up, designed for Chet Atkins. It features a hollow mahogany body with a slightly arched maple top and was initially adorned with cowboy-themed embellishments, including a “belt buckle” tailpiece and decorative inlays. Over time, Gretsch simplified the design, removing some of the western motifs.
Originally priced higher than many competitors, the 6121 was first introduced in the mid-1950s and saw a change in name and design details throughout its production. The 6121 was discontinued in the early 1960s but has since seen several reissues, including historically accurate replicas.
