Famous Gretsch 6120 Guitar Players

The Gretsch 6120 is a hollow-body electric guitar introduced in the mid-1950s, initially endorsed by Chet Atkins. The guitar features f-holes and has a distinctive design, including a prototype presented to Atkins in 1954. Priced at $385 upon release, it was considered expensive compared to competitors. Production ceased in the late 1970s due to changing musical tastes, but the guitar’s value soared when Brian Setzer popularized it in the 1980s. The 6120 is now widely available in various models, including signature versions, primarily produced in Japan. The name evolved over the years, shifting from “6120 Chet Atkins Hollow Body” to “6120 Nashville” in the 1960s, but has since returned to its original branding.
