Famous Gibson SG Guitar Players

The Gibson SG, introduced in 1961, is a solid-body electric guitar that evolved from the Les Paul design. Known for its thinner, contoured body and double cutaway, it allows easier access to higher frets and is marketed as having the “fastest neck in the world.” Despite its popularity, Les Paul himself disliked the model, leading to the removal of his name from it.

The SG features a solid mahogany body, a 24.75″ scale neck, and typically comes with two or three humbucker or P90 pickups. The SG Standard, with its pearloid inlays and individual volume and tone controls, is Gibson’s best-selling model. Various other models exist, using different woods and design elements, but the SG’s comfort and playability have inspired many other manufacturers.
