Famous Gibson L-0 Guitar Players
The Gibson L-0 was part of Gibson’s “L” series of flattop guitars, first introduced in 1926. It had a spruce top and strained birch back and sides, making it a more affordable option compared to the L-1. The L-0 was originally built with 12 frets clear of the body and a 25″ scale length. Later versions of the model also featured mahogany back, sides, or even tops.
In terms of body size, early L-0 models (before 1929) were 13 ½” wide with a round bottom shape, but the body width increased to 14 ¾” after 1929, resembling Martin’s 00-style guitars. The number of frets was increased to 14 after 1932.
The L-0 was discontinued in 1933, but it was reintroduced in 1937 before being discontinued again in 1942. Its simpler successor, the L-00, introduced in 1932, was a stripped-down version of the L-0 and became the least expensive model in the L series.
