Famous Guitarists Who Played the Gibson ES-355
The Gibson ES-355 is a premium semi-hollow body guitar known for its sophisticated features. First introduced in 1958 as a mono model (ES-355TD), the ES-355 was later offered in a stereo version (ES-355TD-SV) starting in 1959. This model included a varitone circuit, but many players chose to disconnect it for mono use. The ES-355 was in production until 1982 and saw a revival in 2018.
The ES-355 is distinguished by its high-end specifications, including an ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlays, gold-plated hardware, and a split diamond headstock inlay. It featured maple top and back with a mahogany neck, and was equipped with either Grover Rotomatic or Kluson ‘waffleback’ tuners. The guitar’s design includes two F-holes, a center block to minimize feedback, and typically comes with two humbucker pickups. Some rare versions of the ES-355 include those with a Stoptail bridge or natural finishes, such as the ES-355TDN.
