Famous Gibson ES-150 Guitar Players
The Gibson ES-150, introduced in 1936, is recognized as the first commercially successful Spanish-style electric guitar, designed to stand out in jazz ensembles with its amplified sound. Priced around $150, it featured a distinctive bar-style pickup, a solid carved spruce top, and a maple body, offering a warmer tone compared to other guitars of the time. Initially popularized by jazz guitarist Charlie Christian, the ES-150 became a significant development in electric guitar history. While the model underwent modifications, including the introduction of Alnico pickups and changes in 1940, its early impact and legacy persisted, with the bar pickup later reintroduced in 1958.
