Famous Guitarists Who Played the Ampeg Dan Armstrong Lucite
In 1968, Ampeg hired Dan Armstrong to improve their Grammer guitars, leading him to design a new line of guitars and basses made from clear Plexiglas. Known for their long sustain due to the solid Plexiglas body, these guitars were heavy, weighing about 10 lbs. They featured interchangeable pickups designed by Bill Lawrence. The Dan Armstrong Plexiglas guitars became iconic, with a reissue released in Japan in 1998 and another in 2006. Armstrong later moved to London, where he developed new instruments, amps, and effects. He passed away in 2004 after a career that left a lasting impact on guitar design.
