The Gibson Country Western is a flat-top acoustic guitar first produced between 1955 and 1978. Initially, it featured a round-shouldered design, which changed to a square-shouldered shape in 1962. The guitar was essentially a natural-finished version of the Southern Jumbo model, equipped with a spruce top, mahogany back and sides, and rosewood bridge and fingerboard.
The model was known as the “SJN Country Western” or “SJN” from 1960 onwards, but “Country Western” returned as the label name in 1962. Structural changes over time included a shift from “belly up” to “belly down” bridge designs in 1969 and the introduction of double-X bracing in 1970, which affected tone quality.
