The Gibson Chet Atkins CE/C, introduced in 1982, is a nylon-string classical electric guitar developed in collaboration with guitarist Chet Atkins and luthier Hascal Haile. It combined elements of solid-body electric and classical guitars, featuring a 25½-inch scale, sound chambers, a solid spruce or cedar top, and a mahogany neck. The CEC included a pickup system with six individual pieces under the bridge and had volume and tone controls on the rim. Although it was less popular among classical guitarists, it gained popularity with artists like Sting, David Gilmour, and Mark Knopfler. Gibson discontinued the CEC in January 2006, and a steel-string variant, the Chet Atkins SST, was released in 1987.
