Around early 1986, Gary Moore acquired three Paul Reed Smith guitars – one red, one white, and one blue. All three were likely Custom 24 models from the early years of production. The white 1986 Custom was personally built and gifted to Moore by Paul Reed Smith himself; presumably, the other two were gifts as well.
Specifications
While we only have confirmed specs for the white 1986 model, the other guitars were likely identical. The white Custom features a one-piece solid Honduran mahogany body and a Honduran mahogany neck. The fretboard is crafted from Brazilian rosewood with abalone inlays. The hardware includes twin humbuckers, a tremolo system, and standard volume and tone controls.
The white guitar was eventually sold at auction and currently resides with a private collector in Stockholm, Sweden. (1986 Paul Reed Smith Custom Gary Moore)
Usage
The white PRS appears in promotional materials and can be seen in the music video for ‘Wild Frontier,’ specifically during the guitar solo.
