Gary bought this Gibson Les Paul R9, a 1959 Reissue, around April 2009 for use on an extensive tour. The guitar became known as “Frankfurt,” after the city where he purchased it.
It appears in many well-known photos and videos from this period. After April 2009, Gary used it at most shows on that tour, often bringing it out for the encore performance of “Parisienne Walkways.” It can also be seen in several video clips, including his 2009 performance at Vibes from the Vines.
Gary continued using the guitar in 2010, including on the Japanese tour. It also appears in “The Last Gig” video on YouTube, where he plays “Parisienne Walkways” on it.
The guitar was later sold through Bonhams in 2025 for £20,480.[1]
