Gary Moore’s 1955 Gibson Les Paul Junior

Brand: Gibson

Gary was first seen using this guitar during the Thin Lizzy 1979 Black Rose Tour. According to Gary, the guitar used to belong to Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. [Gary Moore at No.73, 1987]

Unfortunately at this time, not much is known about the guitar. Gary likely got it between mid and late 1978, when he shared a stage a number of times with Steve and The Greedy Bastards. If you happen to know more, be sure to leave a comment below.

I worked for Philip in the early 80’s and we had a bit of a get together in Philips and Gary dropped by, he got bored later in the evening and went into Philips Music room and picked up a guitar, I went out to Philips garage studio and grabbed the Les Paul jr ( only because ai loved it) and a lead & pig nose and brought it into Gary, off he went and after a bit he stopped suddenly, looked at the guitar then looked and me then guitar again and said, this is my fekin guitar, he left with it that night…don’t think Philip was to chuffed, years later I asked Gary would he part with it, no way …. I got myself a lovely copy a good friend found for me in Dean Street London.
Have to say, Pete’s story tops us all…✌️🍀✌️

I worked for Philip in the mid 80’s, we had a bit of a party in Philips house and Gary showed up, as the night went on Gary got bored and went into the library room to play one of Philips guitars laying around, I went out to the garage studio and grabbed a Gibson Les Paul jr & a pig nose and brought them into Gary, after playing it for a wee bit he stopped, looked at, looked at me and said ‘ this is my fekin guitar’ he left with it in the early hours of the morning….don’t think Philip was to chuffed, it was a cracker guitar, I have a one off copy at home ✌️🍀✌️
PS: Will never top Pete’s story 💚

In 1972 I was the tour manager for an American tour with Irish rock group Skid Row, Gary Moore was the Guitar player in this 3 piece. Cincinnati was one of the cities on the tour. When we were there Gary saw an ad for a Gibson Les Paul Junior somewhere about 50 miles from the city, he asked me to drive him there and I did. We went to a private house in a rural location and Gary went into the house while I waited outside, about 15 minutes later Gary emerged with the guitar and a battered case. That was certainly his first Les Paul Junior.
