Billie Joe Armstrong’s Vox AC30

Billie Joe used a Vox AC30 in the studio while working on the trilogy, ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tré! in 2012. In an interview with Emusician he explained that he didn’t want a modern Marshall sound and instead went for something closer to classic rock. For that, he paired a Vox AC30 with a 1974 Marshall JTM45, recording them in the room and blending the two.

I didn’t want to go for a modern Marshall amp sound. I wanted to do something that sounded more like a classic rock tone. I used a Vox AC 30 and a 1974 Marshall JTM45. We miked the room and captured that.
