Billie Joe used a Victoria 80212 amp during the recording of American Idiot in 2004. He actually had two of them, nicknamed Clean Vicky and Dirty Vicky. Clean Vicky was left stock with Jensen speakers, while Dirty Vicky had been modded by Chris Barnett with a Dumble-style circuit and was fitted with Eminence 1258 speakers.
Both of them were used during the sessions, together with a third Victoria amp, model 35210, nicknamed Little Vicky. That’s the smaller tweed-style combo, and it’s the amp he used for clean tones on American Idiot (like the “American Idiot” intro).
The 80212 itself is Victoria’s take on a late-50s high-powered Tweed Twin. It pushes about 80 watts, built on the 5F8A circuit with four 6L6 tubes, a GZ34 rectifier, and two 12-inch speakers. It’s basically a clean machine with a lot of headroom, designed to hold together even at high volume.
