Billie Joe Armstrong’s 1970 Fender Stratocaster (Class of 13)

Billie Joe Armstrong used this guitar during the 21st Century Breakdown era, around 2009 and 2010. It is a 1970 Fender Stratocaster finished in Olympic White, although by the time Billie was using it, the color had aged into a cream tone.

The guitar was set up to match his main “Blue” Stratocaster as closely as possible. The neck and middle single-coil pickups were disconnected, leaving only a Seymour Duncan JB SH-4 humbucker in the bridge position. The fretboard finish was stripped, and the bridge appears to have more modern block-style saddles. Behind the bridge is the guitar’s most recognizable detail – a sticker reading “Class of 13.”

Billie likely kept this Strat as a backup for Blue during live shows, so it would feel and respond the same if he had to switch mid-set.

After its time on tour, the guitar was sold through Denmark Street Guitars, complete with a certificate of authenticity signed by Billie himself. It reportedly sold for around £13,000, making it one of the more valuable Fender-style guitars associated with him.
